Happy New Year!
05th:
Wihoo. That is all. 2011.

Day 6: Whatever Tickles Your Fancy
Man, that is SUCH a weird phrase =S. I don’t like it x(.
Well here is the last movie I watched in the cinemas:
The Social network. I watched it on Monday with Belinda, after we went to apply for her visas and then went to see academic advisors (FML, the rest of my degree is screwed). We were bored in the beginning (I think it’s cos we’re impatient), but the movie was actually...
Day 5: Your Favourite Quote
“The person, be it gentleman or lady, who has not pleasure in a good novel, must be intolerably stupid.” - Jane Austen (Northanger Abbey).
You know it’s true xD.
Day 4: Your Favourite Book*
FINNIKIN OF THE ROCK - Melina Marchetta.
YAAAAAAY! <3
It’s an epic fantasy book. It’s the best fantasy book I’ve ever read =D. <3
*Okay, so it’s actually day 5 because I forgot to post yesterday. I knew I was going to stuff this challenge up x(.
TORTS IS RELEASED =D
So…so…so…they finally released our torts mark =D. I can sleep properly once again. YAAAAAY.
Though I am still of the opinion that withholding students’ results in protest is a COMPLETELY stupid concept. Honestly.
Day 3: Your Favourite Television Program
Television mini-series totally count as “Television Programs”, right? I can totally argue for this.
Firstly, they air on TV and secondly, they’re not once-off airings. Hence, favourite television program: BBC’s 1995 Pride and Prejudice.
Day 2: Your Favourite Movie
Aw man, I can’t decide between Billy Elliot and The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. So I’ll just pick both =).
Billy Elliot:
Never fails to make me cry.
Lord of The Rings:
Which I must have watched about forty billion times xD.
Day 1: Your Favourite Song
I don’t think I really have one =S.
But I LOOOVE Muse and I really like this song at the moment: Neutron Star Collision
The piano at the beginning is EPIC! Also, no one else but Matthew Bellamy could make “Neutron Star Collision” the name of a song, with such an awesome piano intro and an epic guitar rift in the middle. And Matthew Bellamy’s guitar playing always makes me...
My Sort-of Countdown
Since there are exactly 30 days until I leave for Malaysia (IAMSOEXCITED!!! =D), I have decided to do this 30 day challenge. Though to tell the truth, in all likelihood, I’ll probably give up half way. Oh well. Also, my flight is an overnight flight, and I can’t remember whether I’m leaving on the 17th or arriving on the 17th, so I may be WAY OFF with this timing.
Day 01 — Your...
STUPID TORTS!
FML, the ONE SUBJECT I can’t access the mark to just so happens to be the one that I’m MOST worried about.
STUPID LAW DEPARTMENT AT MQ. Withholding results is NOT COOL. At ALL. *angry face*. UGHHHHH!
On a brighter note, this is officially the FIRST TIME EVER that Georgie hasn’t had to check my results for me because MQ servers are overloaded or whatever xD.
BUT STILL! STUPID,...
Cents and Sensibility - Maggie Alderson
Given the book title, which I am assuming is a play on “Sense and Sensibility” by Jane Austen, I thought this book would be funny! Like some sort of witty re-telling. *Pout*. It so wasn’t x(.
It was just…fluff. The whole book went:
Guy meets girl.
Girl and guy get together.
Guy stuffs up.
They make up.
Girls father turns it into a Romeo and Juliet situation by...
Lovesong - Alex Miller
This was one of the “50 Books You Can’t Put Down” for 2010. Basically, a woman really wanted a child, so she cheated on her husband, with someone who was generally a very decent man before the cheating took place. So she gets her child, but ruins that guy’s life in the process (he eventually dies), and therefore has to live with the guilt for the rest of her life. Oops.
...
Sushi For Beginners - Marian Keyes
One woman is practically forced into what is supposedly a “promotion”, which she doesn’t want. Blahblahblah. While she happens to be going through a divorce. Another woman always carries around a mini kitchen cupboard in her handbag, which was pretty funny at first, but then I found out it was because she developed this habit as a coping mechanism for her mother’s...
The Piper's Son - Melina Marchetta
Ahhh…Melina Marchetta is awesome =). There’s usually great big gaps between her books, but when they DO come out, they’re always REAAAALLY good. Haha, she can write about depression and family issues without it sounding like whiny teen angst xD.
This book made me almost-cry x(. But I battled valiantly against my tear ducts and I won! Yay. It was about characters from her...
The Poisonwood Bible - Barbara Kingsolver
This was really, REALLY good. Very epic, very heart-wrenching…just very awesome. And VERY well written. It’s the most well-written book I’ve read in a very long time. It’s about the unrest in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and this idiot missionary who takes his family there, because of his own pride and arrogance, and then refuses to leave when it would be dangerous...
This Charming Man - Marian Keyes
Marian Keyes writes funny books. Only there’s always some serious issue in the books, so when I read them, I laugh, and then when I find out what’s happened, I feel terrible for laughing D=. This book wasn’t any different. I was laughing at this character’s attempt to stake out in front of her ex-boyfriend’s place and demanding her best friend bring her soup. And...
To live is to be marked. To live is to change, to acquire the words of a story,...
– “The Poisonwood Bible” - Barbara Kingsolver
Dead as a Doornail - Charlaine Harris; Dead in the...
So I finished this on Friday:
And finished this one yesterday:
Which means I have finally finished reading the “Southern Vampire Mysteries” series. Yay. I kind of expected them to be better, seeing as though they turned it into a TV series, and the general consensus on that is “OMG! TRUEBLOOD IS SO GOOD. Blahblahblah…but don’t watch it cos it’s...
Blossoms and Shadows - Lian Hearn
Finished this today:
I was disappointed. Because it was kind of boring. It didn’t seem to go anywhere and the way it was written made the whole book seem unnecessarily loooooooooong and slooooooow. I mean, this is supposed to be about the end of the Samurai Era, and how this group of people overthrew an ineffectual government blahblahblah, giving rise to “Modern Japan”, so...
Atticus told me to delete the adjectives and I’d have the facts.
– To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee (via fuckyeahliteraryquotes)
Dear John - Nicholas Sparks
Finished this morning!
So for a Nicholas Sparks book, it really wasn’t that bad =P. I’ve read a LOT of his books, and only like…FOUR (including this one) DIDN’T make me want to throw up. The rest are CHEESY to the point of no return. “The Notebook” was good…but the sequel to it “The Wedding” was all about this woman planning her...
